Bernard and Fin (who accompanied us on our cross-island journey) knew a couple who had moved from the Tauranga area to Waverley about 18 months previously. Neither Bernard nor Fin had been to Lionel and Jenny's new place. And they wanted to stop in for a visit. Fin made the arrangements via cellphone as we were driving. And so, we stopped in for tea and scones at Lionel and Jenny's place in Waverley, on our way to Manaia.

Lionel and Jenny have a beautiful home, which was built in 1900. It still has those old glass windows where the glass is uneven in thickness. They showed us their vegetable and herb garden and their newly planted orchard.

Then they took us inside and fed us the most amazing tea! Jenny made everything from scratch - including the freshly churned butter that we put on the scones. The scones were actually more like biscuits, in US terms. Very melt-in-your-mouth, fluffy - and of course, she served them warm. Jenny had made all the jam toppings: homemade marmalade, and other fruity confections.

We so enjoyed meeting this couple and spending about an hour-long visit with them on our journey. Lionel even came to the meetings in Manaia on Sabbath, the following day.
